If your child hesitates in speaking or has repetitions of certain sounds, syllables, words or phrases, he or she may be exhibiting characteristics of stuttering. There are many things you can do to help! Try to slow your own speech around the child, using lots of pauses and a relaxed way of talking. This will help your child feel comfortable with speaking, and is better than telling the child to slow his/her speech or start over again. For more ideas, check out the website or come chat!

Disability Pride Awareness Month!

It's disability pride awareness month! Celebrate by reading one of the books suggested by the New York Public Library. I am reading Paperboy by Vince Vawter about a boy who stutters. I love the book, and I identify with the story of a boy who is misunderstood because of his disability. Prayers for everyone who has a disability and may have been misunderstood or mischaracterized because of it, and prayers for all those who work with people who have disabilities.
