Writing!!!!

What better way to improve expressive language skills than with writing!!! Students are encouraged to keep a daily journal of experiences. We have also borrowed from the Basic Writing Skills Program (Hochman, c. 2005, www.basicwritingskills.net) to improve our writing abilities. This month our topic of interest for improving writing is none other than the distinguished Dr. Condoleezza Rice, U.S. Secretary of State. Did you know that in addition to being the first African-American woman to be Secretary of State, she is also a great piano player, an ice skater, and an avid football fan? Disability Pride Awareness Month!

It's disability pride awareness month! Celebrate by reading one of the books suggested by the New York Public Library. I am reading Paperboy by Vince Vawter about a boy who stutters. I love the book, and I identify with the story of a boy who is misunderstood because of his disability. Prayers for everyone who has a disability and may have been misunderstood or mischaracterized because of it, and prayers for all those who work with people who have disabilities.
