Doctor Sorenson

We were excited to have a visit last week from Doctor Sorenson of Columbia University! Doctor Sorenson will soon be doing a residency in surgery. Doctor Sorenson told some of the sixth graders that his favorite thing about being a doctor is learning ways to help people, and seeing them smiling and happy after he has helped them! He said that he first got the idea to be a doctor because his father was a doctor and always had books about medicine around the house. Talking to people in your family and reading books can give you great ideas!

Disability Pride Awareness Month!

It's disability pride awareness month! Celebrate by reading one of the books suggested by the New York Public Library. I am reading Paperboy by Vince Vawter about a boy who stutters. I love the book, and I identify with the story of a boy who is misunderstood because of his disability. Prayers for everyone who has a disability and may have been misunderstood or mischaracterized because of it, and prayers for all those who work with people who have disabilities.
